Product Description
This hilariously sexy, all-star comedy promises to be an entertaining treat you're sure to love! Featuring some of today's biggest comedy favorites, including Carol Burnett (TV's THE CAROL BURNETT SHOW), John Ritter (BAD SANTA), Michael Caine (THE CIDER HOUSE RULES), and Christopher Reeve (SUPERMAN) -- NOISES OFF! is an outrageously funny look at the love, lies, and deceit that take place behind the scenes as a group of ridiculously inept stage actors rehearse a Broadway-bound play! Just when members of this chaotic cast finally get their performances right, everything starts going wrong!

"Noises Off" is a play-within-a-play, wherein the backstage antics, purportedly reflecting the individual, everyday human proclivities of a fourth-rate production's actors, are as funny, if not more so, than the on-stage characters portrayed in the so-called "Noises On" production which plays to an unseen audience.
Set in a time period lasting a few months and during which the participants strive to get beyond personal foibles, the complex front-stage play, "Noises On," involves intricate timing and moves that are mirrored in the backstage and, in their totality, are astounding to witness from a technical point of view.
Perhaps one of "Noises Off" most unusual qualities, though, is displaying the sometimes unexpected, wide-ranging abilities of those involved in its production, including director Peter Bogdanovich whose name, while connected with comedic film productions ("Paper Moon," "What's Up Doc?" and others), often isn't at the top of stage-style productions.
Nearly lost in this adaptation of a Broadway play having English roots born in the mind of playwright Michael Frayn, were the role-stretching abilities of its members. Within a cast of noted comedic stars like Carol Burnett, John Ritter, Julie Hagerty, Michael Caine and Marilu Henner (the only other cast members of this "Noises Off": Nicollette Sheridan, Denholm Elliott, Mark Linn-Baker), was found "Superman," the late Christopher Reeve.
Beyond previous throwaway comedic lines here and there within mostly dramatic roles, Reeve was well-suited to his role of a strapping, handsome, philandering but mostly apprehensive man. Also having passed long before the laughs he created will ever be stilled, John Ritter shinned with his comedic abilities, as did comedic queen Carole Burnett, in this "Noises Off" adaptation.
Although traditional silver screen critics largely applauded this version of "Noises Off" -- and perhaps owed to the difficulties in bringing a stage production to the silver screen -- many well-known stage critics panned "Noises Off" when it debuted. Yet, as have the five stars atop this review attest, this viewer didn't see or feel any less of the "magic" he felt when first seeing the live production in the 1990's (having an entirely different cast).
Popular within a family whose offspring were of elementary school age when they first saw and was mesmerized by a live production of "Noises Off," it remains just as popular -- and brings as much laughter -- today as when first seen live.
