This was a disaster movie I saw on TV years ago and I really liked it. I enjoy good disaster movies and this was a good one. I was very happy to be able to find this one now. There were a few questions about the plot, but it was still better than a lot of others I have seen.

Though a good film, this was not the American version. Let me explain. This film shows almost half the same scenes in the longer version shown in this country. The one I bought from England though okay, if you had watched the original TV two night release you notice parts that are missing that tell a better story and fill in the blanks. Though very cheap to buy I wish I spent more on the movie that had been released in America.

This DVD was hard to find! I saw the movie once on TV, 4 hours and lots of commercials!! Robert Carlyle is one of my favorite actors and he is brilliant in this movie. Of course, being from the U.S. the story was all new to me. But I'm so glad I found it.

I recieved this in great conditon and have seen it several time and enjoy it each time. I love getting mini series from the U.K. and without the commercials. That is why I would rather buy the dvd or vhs instead of watching it on t.v. Thank You.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bonne représentation d'une catastrophe possible

This is the shortened version of a two part drama that has been shown on various TV channels over the last few years. The DVD is the same as the cinema release so you do miss some elements of the full story that really help in making the plot to make sense. There isn't enough time for character development and some sub-stories are missing from this version so I would recommend watching Flood on TV if you can. It is generally shown over two nights with each night being about two hours long (allowing for advertising). I'm a particular fan of the drama because I doubled Chrissie Cotterill for her stunt in the cottage before the opening credits. I also play one of the survivors rescued by Robert Carlyle so there are lots of happy memories for me. Still worth a watch, even if you're not in it! :) The music is good too so I would recommend the soundtrack CD as well.
And if that's not enough, perhaps I can tempt you with the fact that Tom Hardy is also in this film - with me! - and it's a chance to see him giving a great, very moving performance before he went to Hollywood and got himself super-famous. Note to self: do stunts in Hollywood

4.0 out of 5 stars Flawed but I thought this was rather entertaining - London wiped out!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on November 9, 2007
When I bought this at Tesco the morning it came out I also got a 2 for 1 voucher for the London Aquarium . . . in this flawed but fun disaster movie, the Aquarium gets a city-wide extension! Yes, a huge storm surge(given this morning's events in East Anglia and the flood warnings this is spooky) causes flash floods in Wick, Scotland - watch as a house fills with water up to the loft when two women inside are unaware(!!), barrels down the northeast coast of the UK until it enters the Thames estuary. Can the Thames Barrier stop it? Will Barrier experts, estranged husband and wife(Robert Carlyle - THE FULL MONTY, TRAINSPOTTING and the very fit Jessalyn Gilsig(the cheerleader's birth mom in HEROES, now what a mom-and-daughter combo!!) , as all disaster movies dictate, find a solution or warn the city in time? Obviously not. In deference to the DAY AFTER TOMORROW, Tom Courteney this time plays the climatologist whom no-one believes until the Deputy Prime Minister(David Suchet from POIROT!!!) declares a state of emergency, and then everyone panics - traffic jams, overcrowded tubes(no change there then) and looting in car parks - one gets wiped out. Remind me not to park by Tower Bridge on the lower level next time I go there! Drain covers blow off(one taking out a police car) and water pours down streets . . . Actually, the SFX scenes where the surge hits the Thames and floods Canary Wharf, Parliament, the London Eye and all the familiar landmarks are very effective for a TV movie. Gilsig and Carlyle end up washed into the Underground and struggle to rescue some survivors, who include a comedy duo wandeing around the deserted tunnels wondering what's going on! Watch out for Nigel Planer as well who gets bumped off earlier on at the Barrier. Heav-eee! Joanne Whalley-Kilmer has a good role as the Metropolitan Police commissioner worrying for the safety of her daughters while trying to do her job in all the chaos(who we don't see much of, a similar subplot was explored better in the original novel). Who will live and who will die? This movie was based on a superb novel by Richard Doyle, which is better and different - fires break out at oil refineries along the Thames and the burning slick heads into the city - which this movie does not tackle. There are a few more errors made in the story, but watch for yourself - overall, a very good adaptation and often good cheesy fun to watch in an Irwin Allen way. But just tell me after the hero and heroine were washed down a tube tunnel shaft near the Dome, water deluged London up to the first storey on many buildings they still managed to get to a dry Charing Cross tube station(the abandoned Jubilee Line one but spot the posters in it??!! Things I learned from this movie: the Barrier has anti-terrorist motors(?) and there's secret doors behind Tube maps!
