A great kids and adults flick. A good set of story lines woven into an entertaining movie for anyone who either speaks French or can read subtitles. One of the few subtitles movies I didn't find annoying.

The three or so leads were very good child actors showing good range. All the others were - well - kids and enjoyably so, especially the youngest warrior. "I'm sick of this!" as his little naked butt traipsed through the wheat field cracked me up.

Enjoyable watch, cannot miss.

Oh what a lovely story. Great actors, each and everyone...the children ....one forgets it is a film and starts routing for the underdog. The setting...in the countryside. Truly entertaining.
I look forward to watching this again and again.
Thank you.

sweet little film, told almost entirely from the viewpoint of a number of preadolescents. they form little gangs with rivals in the next town, nothing very violent. for the most part, the worst they do is tear off buttons of their rival (hence the film's name). themes of loyalty to friends, to family, about ambition for a better life, what it takes make your way out of poverty, and even about sexism. some cute stuff about puppy love to add a romantic flavor.

You would have to have a hard heart not to love this period piece of adolescence in a quaint French villa. The great war was winding down and the kids were what every kid aspires to be. Mark Twain couldn't have done it better.

I loved this! It was funny as well as touching. The concept of traditions, and how important they are, is shown will great talent throughout the film.
