“The Transformers: The Movie” on 4K UHD Blu-ray, here via the Limited Edition SteelBook, makes for one very impressive release of the film. It’s nice to see a film celebrating its 35th anniversary looking this good all those years later. I think the fans will be extremely pleased with the 4K presentation and impressed by the audio presentations as well as truly enjoy the excellent set of extras. This release truly is “more than meets the eye” and comes as recommended for those of all ages.” – High Def Digest

“The Transformers: The Movie comes to 4K UHD Blu-Ray with a dazzling and vibrant 2160p transfer with both HDR10 and Dolby Vision in the theatrical 1.85:1 aspect ratio…Where this disc really shines is in the implementation of the HDR. The colors present in this transfer are practically leaping off the screen with the wide range of hues permeating the frame…This is a stunning 4K UHD Blu-Ray presentation that marks a visually splendid upgrade from the Blu-Ray.“ – Geek Vibes Nation

Amazing 4K picture, but with disappointing audio & terrible disc placement.
4 Stars
Amazing 4K picture, but with disappointing audio & terrible disc placement.
I remember seeing this in the theater on opening day. There was no internet to spoil anything. I was a cool 11 year old who ended up sobbing at that one fateful scene (come on, everyone knows what it is), and so did every other kid in the theater. A ton of Transformers were killed, there was light profanity, a rock & roll soundtrack...it was all so shocking! I've probably watched this more times than The Wrath Of Khan & the original 3 Star Wars movies combined, and have it almost memorized word for word. And yet, it never gets old!The 4K restoration is absolutely perfect, with HDR making it even more so. Colors blast forward, with incredible space battles, and the picture is crystal clear. I don't think they even tried to clean up any of the grain, and I'm SO glad that they didn't, as it really would've taken a lot of the magic away. The main menu is nice and bright, with a little animation. The discs themselves have incredible artwork, which so many 4K releases lack. Also, the steelbook outer case design is amazing, with a great picture of Unicron flying past a star on the inside. There's also an envelope with 4 artwork cards, which I removed because they just block the picture. However there are some problems with this release. While the DTS-HD 5.1 audio track is excellent, I think it's the exact same one from the 30th anniversary Blu-ray. I was really looking forward to a Dolby Atmos track, and am extremely disappointed they didn't include one. Another problem is that the audio always defaults to 2.1. Make sure you go into the menu and change it to 5.1 if you want surround sound. The special features are nice, but almost all of them are just the same ones from earlier releases of the movie. Deleted scenes are just storyboard concept art. I will say that Stan Bush's new acoustic performances are a nice "Touch!"While the case itself looks great, there's a HUGE problem. The discs are stacked in offset holders, with one on top of the other. It makes it extremely easy to damage the disc on the bottom when you try to remove it, as it lies flat against the surface under the top disc's plastic base, and the edges are raised around it. Fortunately, the 4K one was on top. This is an absolutely horrible & amateur design.I really wish some more love had gone into this release. But even with all of these problems, I still absolutely recommend this for anyone with a 4K player, who rushed home from school to watch the Transformers every afternoon.

This is a far crisper version of the movie than the VHS tapes that I grew up renting. While there are still some minor issues with image quality on a couple frames here and there, I enjoyed a better version of this movie than what has hit the streaming services in my area.

The audio is on the quiet side. I normally watch movies with the audio set to 9 or 10 on the TV. This one had to be set at 17 or 18.

This is for the widescreen DVD disc. I have not yet watched the full frame blu ray disc yet.

The case for the blu ray disc has the two discs on opposing sides instead of overlapping and the cover is reversible so that the classic cover can be displayed on the outside of the box.

The special features include commentary and some storyboard sequences. While some people may still want more, I was more than satisfied with what I got for 13 dollars. Deleted scenes to an animated movie that is 35 years old are most likely not going to miraculously turn up when we don't even have still frames to indicate that the scenes in question were ever drawn as part of the finished product.

Of course, if the scenes DO turn up and are on a disc in the future, I'll probably get that disc.

I'm giving this 5 stars because the initial issues were resolved, and therefore don't require a subtraction of a star.

Initially I had Ordered this movie a couple days ago. Received the initial shipment yesterday, and the 4K disc was a bad disc. It locked up during the scene of Starscream ejecting Megatron from the ship. This happened on two different players at the exact same spot, and even after cleaning the disc. In my experience, usually a player problem would happen at random, and with a specific player. Disc problems are consistent and can affect different players both the same, and also differently (in this case same issue, same part of the movie)

Anyway since I rarely have disc playback problems, I was pretty sure this was a bad disc, so issued an exchange, and the replacement came today. My initial hunch was correct as the new disc played perfectly.
So 5 stars to Amazon, and 5 Stars to the movie.

As far as the movie goes, I'm a transformers fan as well as a fan of 80's movies and cartoons / TV shows, etc as a whole. I own the standard blu-ray of this movie, and wanted to try the 4k upgrade. I typically don't buy UHD titles for 4k alone, but for HDR, which for me makes the biggest difference, and really to be honest, is the biggest difference in my experience. In fact, if they started mastering standard Blu-ray with HDR, I would be completely satisfied.

Some Technical details:

I own two UHD players, a Sony UBP-X800, and a UBP-X700. I'm aware of the problems people have reported about Sony players, however Sony has always been a good and dependable vendor for me.
I'll leave the tech details at this, because it was a disc issue, so only the player specs matter here.

I really liked how the new presentation of the film turned out. HDR really brightened up the movie as a whole and made it pop over the SDR versions. The soundtrack is good. I played the DTS-HD-MA 5.1 track, but the disc defaults to DTS-HD-MA 2.0. You can tell it's an older soundtrack, because of the tone, and the music, and the overall sound. However, I thought it sounded crisp and clear. Not real bass heavy, but it had it's moments when bass lets you know it's there.

Closing thoughts:
If you're a transformers fan, I'd get this version if you have an HDR / 4k Setup. I don't think you'll regret it.
Also, if your disc has playback problems the first time around, and cleaning it doesn't help. Chances are you got a defective disc, and a simple exchange should correct the problem.

Overall, hoping with Amazon has always been a positive experience for me. If there is anything else I think I should share, I'll add it later.
